Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) also known as Myalgic encephalitis, is characterized by extreme fatigue, sleep difficulties and physical pain, often worsened by activities. This debilitating condition is very difficult to treat, but many patients are even more frustrated by the lack of understanding and acceptance by the general medical community.
Diagnosis is also challenging as there are no specific tests for CFS, however underlying medical conditions and infections must be checked for as many can have similar symptoms to CFS. Lifestyle adjustments are key to minimizing the effects of this condition. Specific attention to nutrition and sleep are important as well as modified but regular physical exercise. While there are medications that can help with symptoms, it is always better to manage chronic fatigue with as little medicine as possible.
